At the end of 2023 the Coastal SD Soccer League was a mere idea of becoming a reality. The driving force was feedback from parent groups (of top end youth players) and growing concerns that their players were training too much, playing too many pressure mounted games and not “just playing” enough. It sparked a serious flame in our minds and we started brainstorming ideas.
Fast forward to the middle of January 2024, at a convention for one of the most elite leagues in the country, the Academy director for Liverpool FC gave a compelling presentation highlighting the importance of playing hours verse training hours and that the common denominator with all their current pros was not the amount of formal training they had or the age at which they entered the academy but rather, the amount of time they spent just playing. The Academy director also went in to how much snake oil selling there is in football training these days but that’s a discussion for another day.
This league exists to allow parents and players to come enjoy themselves and just, play.
